I've been having trouble forever with viewing some attachments in ChatterEmail on my Palm 755p; some attachments just don't appear at all. When I go to a desktop PC, the attachments appear and load just fine with Thunderbird, but Chatter can't see them.
So, I tried the OTA upgrade from within Chatter. It looked neat, said it downloaded the update and installed, but when I tried to load the application I got "The version of chatterutils on your treo is out of date" as a fatal error message.
This forum post suggests deleting ChatterExg.prc and ChatterUtils.prc, but I couldn't do it (the device wouldn't allow it). I ended up following this advice to restart the device without loading any startup applications (like Chatter). To be clear, there is no reset button on the 755p, so to do a clean restart without loading startup applications, I removed and replaced the battery while holding the top button of the rocker. After the clean restart, I was able to delete those two files. I then removed and replaced the battery again (to restart normally).
With that done, ChatterEmail was now completely hosed. I downloaded the new version, ran HotSync from my desktop, and it installed the whole application over again. I've now been running version 3.0.0.18 successfully for 15 solid minutes...we'll see if all the trouble actually helps with the attachments problem...
[edit 2008-07-07]It didn't really help. To be honest, I haven't noticed anything cool, new, or fixed in this version...there probably is a white paper somewhere explaining it all, but I don't care that much. For now, I'll have to get to a real mail client to open some attachments[/edit]
