Links 'everyone' should try:
- Google - just the best search engine I've found (though I've pretty much stopped looking at other engines now!). I can get great results with Google's search, consistently beating Microsoft's Live Search, even for Microsoft-specific topics
- Remember the Milk - online Task list (or To-Do list. Having your task list online makes it available from any computer where you can log on, from your phone, etc. It will even send email and SMS reminders to you.
- Google Calendar - more Google goodness; this time it's an online calendaring system. Set up multiple calendars; one for work, one for the kids, one for your spouse, etc. and show them all in one view. You can share them with friends, publish them on your own web site, and even view/update them from your cell phone. Did I mention it's all free?
- Thunderbird - a really great (and free) email client from Mozilla. Much lighter and faster than Outlook (and don't get me started about GroupWise). I moved my Outlook 2007 calendar to Google Calendar, switched to Thunderbird for my email client, and haven't been happier.
- Firefox
- OpenOffice.org
- DeepBurner
- AVG Antivirus
- ZoneAlarm Firewall
- Picasa
- Picasa Web Albums, and Flickr
- Walmart's online photo center
Slightly more 'technical' links...may not be suitable for some audiences. OK, that's way too dramatic; some of these are specialized applications that not everyone has a use for, others introduce concepts that require you to 'open your mind' a bit, letting go of 'how things are' and embracing how they can be. Damn, now that's too spiritual. Just read the descriptions and check them out if it sounds neat to you.
- Ubuntu - When I can come up with the time, I want to write up a full page on using Linux (and especially Ubuntu) as an alternative to Microsoft Windows. For now, suffice it to say you can have almost all the good things Windows gives you (and many it doesn't), for zero cost. Not now, not ever. Free. Most people don't believe it; it defies logic, but that's exactly what Linux is all about. And Ubuntu is Linux.
